Talk-cum-discussion on “Karnataka Assembly Poll Analysis: Implications for Lok Sabha Elections 2024”

The CSSP organised a ‘Talk-cum-Discussion’ on “The Recent Karnataka Assembly Poll Analysis and Its Implications for Lok Sabha Elections 2024′ on 7th June 2023. A very eminent psephologist and political analyst, former Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Jain University, Bangaluru and Vice-Chancellor of Jagran Lake City University, Bhopal Prof Sandeep Shastri was the Resource Person.
Prof Shastri told that during the last 40 years, the incumbent government in Karnataka had never been reelected, so it was congress chance this time. Secondly, Karnataka voters make a distinction between state and national polls and vote accordingly. So, there is no semi-final; Karnataka results do not indicate any trend for LS Polls 2024. Third, he told that Modi factor cannot win BJP state elections unless it is backed by state leadership. W. Bengal and Karnataka are some examples. The BJP did retain its 36% previous vote share, but failed in the old Mysore dominated by Vokalingas. The party needs pay attention to regional pockets in Karnataka and every state as each demands different attention.
speaking on the implications for 2024 LS polls, he cautioned the Opposition not to be too much optimistic or complacent. If they allow the BJP to focus contestation on leadership, they will have lost the battle well before it began. But if they force the BJP to focus on issues, policies and programme, then it may be an open game in 2024.
